    Get PDF
Technology is an essential component in all types of organisations and most organisations have reasons to implement new technology. The most fundamental justification for new technology implementation is that the technology must be able to contribute to strong competitive advantages and also increase or create long-term profit. In most small and medium enterprises (SMEs), there are barriers or obstacles in implementing these technologies. This article report a study aimed in investigating barriers faced by the Malaysian herbal industry in implementing technologies in their factory. Most of the local herbal manufacturing firms are categorised as SMEs which are usually considered to be lagged behind larger companies in technology usage. As this was an exploratory research, a case study method was used as it gave in-depth explanation of the main barriers of technology implementation. The results suggested that the main constraint in implementing technologies are lack of technical specialists and financial, aid commitment from top management, low wage rate, and future demand uncertainties

Nowadays, cartography, otherwise known as mapping, are serving people in multiple aspects of livelihood and administration like planning, rescue, military, and tourism. The information is usually presented in the map by using legends, elevation, and contour. With the passage of time, many new methods of mapping are introduced which are divided into the non-digital and digital version.Another method used is the incorporation of 3D modelling in virtual aspect by simulating real-world data.In the recent years using the game engine is one of the important 3D modelling approaches obtained. The game engine has a lot more capabilities to simulate real-world terrains whereas using database support for terrain visualisation, new functionality can be used. This article discussed how to utilise game engine technology for developing 3D terrain visualisation with oil palm tree data. With the success of the system, it, therefore, gives benefits to potential visitors especially the manager of oil palm plantation, decision makers and planners to explore the online 3D terrain visualisation with oil palm tree data and manage it

3D silhouette rendering algorithms using vectorisation technique from Kedah topography map

Most of the applications in real world today are more toward non-photorealistic rather than photorealistic. Slihouette Rendering Algorithms is one of the technique that important in creating non-photorealistic image. It has been successful used in various applications such as game engine, communicating shape, cartoon rendering and 3D terrain visualization. This paper explores how silhouette rendering algorithms could be created using a data that have been extracted from Kedah topography map. Contour data from a topography map are convert from raster to vector (vectorisation) in order to create a grid terrain Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data. The vectorisation software has been used for producing these data. The data then convert into the format that suitable for existing 3D silhouette software. The results produced compatible terrain images of Sik District, Kedah that are closer to human drawn illustration and look like an artistic style

Benchmarking is recognized as an essential tool for continuous improvement of quality.Nowadays, many public sector organizations have been encouraged to implement benchmarking asone way of satisfying the government’s requirement that public organizations provide best valueservices. This paper begins with discussion of the literature that is integrated to point out the generalbasis of the topic. Then, this study will address the questions of whether the factors that affectingsuccessful benchmarking has relationship with benchmarking process as well as whetherbenchmarking process will lead to improvement of organizational performance. Therefore, the studyhad interviewed officers that involved in benchmarking project within 35 local authorities inPeninsular Malaysia. Finally, this paper also focuses on the methodology and data analysis of thestudy. Keywords: Benchmarking Process; Organizational Performance; Local Authoritie

Coconut is one of the most important agricultural plantation crops in many countries and “tree of life”. Coconut worldwide is confronting significant difficulties to its existence. Recently the quantity of coconut farming has diminishes in Malaysia due to poor agricultural practices and farm management. The aim of this paper is to study the problems facing by coconut producers and also the status of coconut estate practice in Malaysia. The article further aims to identify the technique to determine coconut plantation practices and to uncover the real issues confronting coconut farmers. In this study, the data from a field observation and an interview are being collected. We discovered the techniques for coconut based farming that was problematic traditional manual cultivation practices with lack of proper management practices. On the other hand, the study reveals that lack of awareness of the farmers regarding the information of plants, pest problems and diseases as coconut is grown without any monitoring activities. The results are potential to help the coconut plantation manager in identifying the problem and status of coconut plantation management practices

The oil palm industry has been well known as the backbone in Malaysian agriculture and still maintain as the main commodity exports. The research on oil palm industry has been growing gradually by utilizing various methods and technology to solve the problem in managing oil palm plantation. The aim of this paper is to review the technique in managing oil palm plantation towards a digitalized online 3D application. Various problems and techniques on managing oil palm plantation has been reviewed which involving various technology such as GIS, GPS, DBMS and hyperspectral. It was found that monitoring the characteristic of oil palm plantation is beneficial and important to oil palm planters. The new online 3D application for oil palm plantation management has a potential of assisting oil palm managers in making a decision, visualizing their plantation in online 3D environment, and managing their plantation effectively

The coconut (Cocos nucifera) is an essential agricultural crop which delivers oil, food, beverage, fiber, medicine with range of raw materials and widely identified as "tree of life". The coconut grows all over the tropics but is fronting major challenges to its survival. It obviously demonstrates that coconut plantation has declined due to poor agricultural practices and farm management. The aim of this paper is to reveal the existing challenges and find opportunities of online 3D visualization of GIS data in coconut plantation management. In this study, the data collected from a field observation will be used as the source of primary data where coconut plantation took place. The results discovered from the coconut field observation about the techniques for coconut based farming that are traditional challenging manual cultivation practices and there is also lack of proper monitoring activities is the main challenges could be highlight for introducing new technologies. The findings from this study possibly will helps in identifying the suitable challenges and opportunities that could be highlight in implementing online 3D visualization of GIS data for coconut plantation management. It will also be adapted for advancing visualization technologies
